My Avature Adventure
Day 9 at a new company and I received an email saying that the ‘Working from the Beach’ program was ON.
The first thing that came to my mind was that it was a very peculiar phishing campaign, maybe the Risk and Compliance area was testing my scam-radar. Been there once, but this time was different. Nobody was asking me to share my passwords or any other private information with them. I only had to take a look at my calendar and pick a week in February to travel to Cariló! Awesome!
A couple of days later, I received another update. From that moment onwards I would be recognized with the tag: Week 2 – House 1. I would share those days with another 44 Avaturians. WhatsApp groups, Splitwise accounts, car pools, and football teams were created in the blink of an eye. I told my friends about it and they just couldn’t believe it; it seemed too cool to be true. This is a completely outside the box kind of benefit and one of the best from my point of view.
I had the chance to go to the beach and have some rabas! (“Calamari,” but I like the Spanish word for those). Ping-pong, volleyball, swimming; you name it. Moving forward through the menu, we had: plenty of barbecues, good, cold beers; I even had a chocotorta once, courtesy of my roommate.
Work and enjoyment coexisted there in a perfect balance. I met a lot of people: developers who were great musicians, account managers who were excellent chefs, and a group of awesome guys who mastered the science of board games.
So, as one of my idols once said: “yes is the answer.” That’s the spirit of adventure that Avature embodies to me.
